Lichens.ie Launched
Ireland's Lichens now have a web site of their own: www.lichens.ie. The site concentrates on describing lichens found in Ireland. It also contains general information on lichen biology
also contains general information on lichen biology, ecology and their use as pollution indicators. The current list of species profiles on the web site is set to grow over the next few months. All lichen descriptions are accompanied by photographs. The mapping tools on Biology.ie are available to each described species. Paul Whelan, author of Lichens.ie, said 'they complement each other very well, one being for mapping Ireland's biodiversity and Nature's Calendar (phenology) while the other is a species descriptive site. Lichens.ie is educational at its core ' its principal aim is to attract people to the study of lichens in Ireland'.
